In early 2016, Growler USA opened its first franchised craft beer pub in Charlotte and its second franchise pub in Austin. The craft beer franchise has been steadily more aggressive with opening new restaurants. In the process, craft beer bloggers, restaurant industry publications, and local media outlets have taken notice.
Growler USA in Redmond, Washington, opened this summer near Seattle. Ann and Greg Humes are the local franchise owners. The pub has been featured in the Washington Beer Blog, Northwest Beer Guide, Seattle Times, The Redmond Reporter, Upstart Business Journal, SeattlePi.com, Puget Sound Business Journal, and Eater Seattle.
Growler USA in Honolulu opened in the Kapahulu neighborhood in the summer of 2016, just a few blocks from Waikiki Beach. Local owner Bill Muneno has granted interviews to Honolulu Magazine, Hawaii Mom Blog, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, and Frolic Hawaii.
Growler USA Katy opened near Houston this summer, as Jessica and Lance Mayo started serving guests in their neighborhood of Katy, Texas. The couple was featured in The Katy Rancher, Eater Houston, The Houston Chronicle (Chron.com), Houston Business Journal, and The Katy News.
Growler USA Phoenix opened near Scottsdale, Arizona in September. George Plescia and his wife, Melissa Dollaghan, own and operate the pub, which has been written up by the local ABC TV network affiliate–twice, including this roundup of dog-friendly restaurants—The Arizona Republic (also twice), the Phoenix New Times (twice again), and the Phoenix Business Journal.
Around the same time, Seth McDaniel’s Growler USA craft beer pub will be serving delicious food and hand-crafted beverages in Rogers, Arkansas, near Bentonville. Arkansas Business caught up with Seth.
Greg Walther heads a multi-unit ownership group that expects to open two pubs in Nashville in 2017. Growler USA’s entry into the Nashville craft beer pub scene was highlighted by Full Service Restaurant Magazine, TV station FOX 17 Nashville, The Tennesseean, Nashville Business Journal, and The Nashville Post, and mentioned in roundups by Eater Nashville and Modern Restaurant Management.
Mars Booth-Malnack and her husband Brent Malnack’s Growler USA microbrew pub is in development in Omaha, Nebraska’s Maple Creek neighborhood. The pub’s anticipated opening in 2017 piqued the interest of The Omaha World Herald.
The interest in these local craft beer pub openings is expected, as America’s interest in craft beer and supporting local business owners continues to grow.
